If I were asked what my favorite ABBA album is, I would say "Voulez-Vous." While I enjoy all of their albums, "Voulez -Vouz" stands out the most for me because of its mix of disco, rock, and pop. It also has a certain sound to it that I like that is different from their other albums, but still clearly ABBA. The album starts off with "As Good as New," which begins with a short string instrumental intro before segueing into a disco beat, with Agnetha singing lead vocal. I remember hearing the first minute or so of this track on a cassette tape when I was a kid, and I enjoyed what I was hearing until the song was interrupted during the chorus because one of my older brothers had recorded over it with something else. I was disappointed, because I loved what I had heard so far and wanted to hear more. Fast forward to my teens when I started to get into ABBA. We had the "Voulez-Vouz" album on vinyl record and when I put it on and heard the title track, I immediately remembered hearing it before. I loved it. I had no idea it was ABBA. It was a pleasant surprise. Every track on here is great. The title track "Voulez - Vous" is also a standout for me, as it's one of my all -time favorites. Other favorites for me on this album include "Angeleyes," "Does Your Mother Know," "If It Wasn't for the Nights," and "Kisses of Fire." Honestly, all the tracks on here are great. There isn't one I skip. I really enjoy Bjorn's vocal on "Does Your Mother Know." He doesn't get enough credit for this I don't think. It's a great track and I think his voice fits it perfectly. I really love the chorus with all four of them singing in unison. I also love how the girls kick off "Angeleyes" with "A - ah ah, A aaah ah ah ah ah ah." It never gets old. The album features four bonus tracks including the full - length version of "Summer Night City," (a shorter version kicked of the "More ABBA Gold" compilation) also a favorite of mine, "Lovelight," "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), "Dream World" and an extended remix of "Voulez - Vous" for a 1979 promotion in the U.S. The 2010 deluxe edition release includes a DVD which features rare television clips and commercials promoting the album. "ABBA in Switzerland" is a television special made in mid - February 1979 which includes the group performing songs from the album. There is also an interview with Benny & Bjorn on BBC television. These videos are rare and can't be found anywhere else, so get the deluxe edition for exclusive content. The album includes a booklet with pictures and an essay on the making of the album, including information on the bonus tracks and the DVD selections. I bought this CD to replace my copy of an old cassette tape I had recorded from the original vinyl back when I was a teenager. The remastered sound is incredible. So clear and crisp. If you're an ABBA fan and want to get all of their albums, get the deluxe editions. You won't be disappointed.
