Product Description
This 43" Scottish Claymore With hardwood scabbard The Claymore was the sword of Scotland. The sword came into widespread use during the 13th century in Scotland and was used up until the 17th century in Clan wars, and border disputes with England. On the battlefield the Claymore was a fearsome opponent. It was slightly shorter than the average two handed sword of the time allowing it to be wielded faster, but with the same crushing blows as its counterparts. The guard would have two cross arms that had a downward slope and ended in quatrefoils. The design acted as a sword breaker of sorts. When the Claymore parried or blocked an opponents sword the arms of the guard would trap the other sword and the Claymore could then disarm the opponent. This is a well made reproduction of a mid 15th century Scottish Claymore.
