Introduced in 1956, this British staple was developed in conjunction with London Transport, the bus' primary customer. Nearly 3,000 Routemasters were built before their official 2005 retirement, but a select few Routemasters remain in use on two London heritage routes. An updated version is anticipated to hit the streets in 2012.
