It started with two people, a roll of Merino wool felt, and a basic idea that people prefer quality in anything around them as we do. We wanted to feel good about what we do…and we just figured people want to feel good about what they buy. Founded by Holger Graf and Daniel Lantz in 2008 and inspired by Holger’s German heritage and Daniel’s love for the Japanese ideas of less, but chosen, we work with some of the world's earliest, most durable, and sustainable materials, wool felt, leather, hemp and canvas. Using the finest Merino wool, Graf Lantz brought fun and style to the once-overlooked miracle fabric to bring joy to all of our products. Holger Graf earned his Ph.D. in structural engineering from his studies in Germany, while Daniel Lantz let fate lead him to grow deep roots in the shokunin world of Japan. Truly at the intersection of opposites, they came together in Los Angeles and created Graf Lantz. Today, Graf Lantz has transcended its artistry in felt with explorations in colorful and modern mixtures of leathers and 24 oz canvas, alpaca, and hemp. As they continue venturing into new design territories, their unique, non-status quo look remains present in every piece. With the full life of a product (and life in general) always in mind, everything Holger and Daniel do is built to last years and age gracefully. We appreciate the misfits, the undervalued, and the uncompromising. Mindful, sustainable, and high-performance, Graf Lantz is a unique collection of wool, leather, organic cotton, linen, and canvas collections on a casual mission to elevate and inspire. German precision, Japanese perspective, and California soul form a trio of influences for a cross-category range of products working under the radar for maximum subtlety and lingering impact. Our heritage textile, Merino wool felt, is the most protective, luxurious, and sustainable material in the world.
